I don't know if you saw that in the last few days, when you post a comment on your myspaces pages with an image or url to somewhere else, you will saw that the browser says something like http://www.msplinks.com/xxxxxxxx.

Well I could give you a technical answer about it:

The link DOES go to wherever you have it going to but this is clearly a tracking method by myspace.

If you do a whois on msplinks.com you find this:

Not sure what this all means but doesn't look good.

Ok then what we the normal people who have pages there have to do?
Nothing.

For any problem there (and in all the Internet world) there are a normal list of things to do:
1.- Try to made your password more secure using combination like wordhardtounderstand + special character + number (Ih4t3you.88)
2.- Try to don't use your birthday or husband/wife name, pet, etc. as a password, the Hackers history is based on this mistake why? because any1 who knows you a litle can find your password because that names will be their first choice.
3.- Change your password every couple of weeks.
4.- If you have 2 post pictures there is no problem about it and you can put any url just as a normal text.
5.- Send me a flying ticket to your country to meet you - Note: this is only for the girls

I'm thinking that it's for marketing purposes to track where myspace customers go. Probably having to do with advertisements.

It may also be an attempt to get a handle on the spammers who are flooding MySpace by tracking them to their source.

I had to change my profile settings to where all comments must be approved first b/c I was starting to get spam. Some people outright suck!

The official explanation:

Hey everybody, we just launched another program to stop dirty spammers from hasseling you. When you input a link in myspace it may be converted to a redirect link. You'll start seeing them around the site. They look like this: msplinks.com/adf9sd9f. These links are legit and we are creating them. They are not viruses or whatever else your conspiracy theorist friends told you. They still point to their original url, but let us easily turn off links to spam, phishing, or virus sites. booyah!
