03/09/07 Cardiff International Arena - Cardiff, Wales

I just checked in for my flight! I'm headed to London today and then to Cardiff the 8th through the 10th. My mom and I plan to come to Wellingtons before the show, so memorize my face.

I hope to see as many of you there as possible!

I wish I could have met you guys there. We had to change plans ecause our friends wouldn't be able to pick us up on Saturday so they had to pick us up from Cardiff Friday afternoon. We were afraid something like this would happen so we didn't buy tickets for the show. I'm really bummed I didn't get to meet you guys. Is anybody going to the London Hammersmith show?? I will definately be there.

Hi Tracy and Liz, nice to meet you both last night - hope you enjoyed the gig. I thought JSS was excellent and makes a fine frontman for one of my favourite bands, - like many Journey fans i had some doubts as to his suitability so I was delighted to be proven wrong - everyone i talked to after the show thought his performance was great.

By Journey standards the show was a little rough with a few sound and other problems, but in any event they rocked, and so did I!!!

The Cardiff crowd were amazing too.

Hi Ian (and Tracey). Really enjoyed it too, especially the Wales shirt - if ANYONE has a good pic of JSS in the rugby shirt please please post it, I ended up at the back so my pics aren't great (though I haven't edited them yet). My only gripe, I ended up at the back as nobody in my section was standing (!?! yes I know, outrageous behaviour for a rock concert) and I hate sitting down at gigs.

Set list? I've tried to brainstorm but can't remember the order properly.

I'm in Heathrow about to head back home, but I do need to post one brief comment about the gig first (Although I'm sure Liz covered it in her blog...just no time to read it...£1 for 10 minutes!)

In the extended and fantastic intro for Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin' Jeff was trying to get the crowd to stand and said Stand Up, Stand Up, Stand Up and Shout!!!! I know Lisl heard it!

Thanks! And I am taller than quite a lot of people, unfortunately. Didn't help that I was wearing 2 inch heels though!

OK...I'm finally caught up on sleep enough to add my two cents about the Cardiff show. (Although Liz has already pretty much covered it.)

At Wellington's before the show I believe I was the first to arrive. Then some Journey fans arrived and one named Allison (Ian's sister) seemed friendly so I approached her. She took me under her wing for the evening and introduced me to some other Journey fans that were all great. Most of them had not yet seen JSS with Journey and were cautiously optimistic. No one had a bad word to say about him, which made me happy.

My seat was on the floor, 9th row, way over on Jonathan's side. Even though I could see great my pictures didn't turn out at all - even with a zoom lens. The concert was fantastic, as expected. The crowd all seemed really into it, even though a significant portion did remain seated. I was so pleased that JSS was well received! As a relatively new Journey fan, I'll admit that there were many songs that I didn't know at all or only slightly. One of those I particularly enjoyed, but I need someone else that was there to tell me the name...it was the song Jeff introduced by saying he used to sing it to girls to try to get a date for the prom. Someone please help!

For me the highlight of the show was Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'. It had quite a long intro and they just rocked that song. I can't believe that none of you commented on my early post about the intro...maybe I didn't make sense typing so quickly in Heathrow. Jeff was trying to get the crowd to stand and was pointing in each direction and saying "stand up," then he sang the line "stand up and shout" in exactly the manner you would expect. I loved that little nod towards his previous work! Maybe no one else thought it was as cool as I did because many of you have seen him with the JSS Band, but I didn't and I thought it was great.

Afterwards I went back by the buses to see if I could catch Jeff on the way out. I did get to meet Neal and Jonathan, but not Jeff. Neal was very nice, which surprised me because I was kind of expecting a "guitar God" sort of attitude. Our short visit with Jonathan was made even shorter when Jeff came out and got directly on the bus, apologizing to the dozen fans waiting that they had to leave right away. Jonathan left us immediately to board the bus, and they were gone in under two minutes.

Overall a fantastic experience that I hope to repeat many times in the future!

But I just wanted to tell you anyway that it's AWESOME that he discretely added a little bit of his solo flavor into the show without actually having it take over the Journey setlist

Tracy - the song that Jeff introduced as one that he sang to girls in high school is 'Opened the Door; which is the last track of 'Infinity' which was the first journey album that Steve Perry sang on with the band in 1978.

This is my favourite journey song - i sang it to my girl 22 years ago, and I'm still singing it to her now, even though she's not around. Romance is not dead!
